How long should an AI-generated episode be?
Runtime is scenes per episode times scene length. For a first AI series, aim for roughly one to three minutes per episode: long enough for a beginning, middle and end, short enough to fix cheaply.
The two numbers that set runtime
AI video is generated scene by scene, so runtime is simple arithmetic: number of scenes times seconds per scene. Eight scenes of eight seconds is 64 seconds. Twenty scenes of ten seconds is over three minutes.
In AISP you set both when you create a series. Scenes per episode runs from 3 to 60, or you can let the writer pick the count from the script. Scene length depends on the look: Storyboard and Motion scenes run 4 to 15 seconds, and the video tiers render 5 to 20 seconds per scene. The Length step shows the resulting runtime per episode before you go on.
Shorter scenes or longer scenes?
- Shorter scenes (4–6 seconds) cut faster, suit action and comedy, and give the story more beats for the same runtime.
- Longer scenes (10 seconds and up) suit dialogue, slow drama and establishing shots, but any flaw stays on screen longer.
- More scenes means more images and shots to render, so cost tracks both numbers, not just runtime.
Start short, then grow
Your first episode is where you discover whether the premise, cast and style work. Keep it short, render it in a cheap look (Storyboard is 1 credit per second and Motion 2 at the time of writing), and only lengthen episodes or move to video once you like it.
AISP quotes each episode’s exact cost from its finished script before charging. If the quote is more than your balance, you can still write the script, then shorten the episode or top up before generating. Failed scenes are refunded, and retrying renders only the scenes that failed.
Questions
Can different episodes have different lengths?
Yes. The writer can choose the scene count per episode from the script, and you can write an episode yourself at whatever length the script needs.
What is the longest scene?
20 seconds on the video tiers and 15 seconds on Storyboard and Motion.
