What is a series bible, and how do you write one?

A series bible is the reference document for a show: the title, logline and premise, the cast and what each character looks and sounds like, the rules of the world, and the season’s episode outline.

What goes in a series bible

TV writers use a bible so that every writer, director and designer works from the same facts. For an AI-made series it matters even more, because a model forgets everything between prompts. A useful bible contains:

  • Title, genre and a one-sentence logline.
  • A paragraph on the premise: what the show is and why it keeps going.
  • The cast, sized to the story rather than to a habit, each with a concrete visual description.
  • World rules: what is possible in this world and what is forbidden.
  • A season outline: one line or paragraph per episode, ending somewhere.

Write appearances as facts, not adjectives

“A mysterious woman” cannot be drawn the same way twice. “Late thirties, tall and wiry, cropped grey hair, long olive raincoat, scar through the left eyebrow” can. Each description should stand alone, because it will be copied into shots on its own; never write “as above”.

Decide the cast size from the premise. A survival story in one room may need two people; a heist needs the crew. Three is common but should not be a default.

How AISP writes one for you

When you create a series in AISP, the agent writes the bible from your idea: title, genre, logline, premise, world rules, the cast with locked visual descriptions, and the full season-1 outline. It is told to decide the cast size from the story, and to write each appearance as a concrete visual description that will be used to draw them identically in every scene. Writing the bible is free.

If you attach notes, the agent treats them as canon and does not contradict them, which is how you keep your own lore. After each episode it writes continuity notes, a running record of what has happened that later scripts must honour.

Questions

How long should a series bible be?

Long enough to answer any question a writer would ask mid-scene, and no longer. For a short AI series, a page or two is plenty.

Can I edit the bible AISP writes?

You steer it through your idea and attached notes, which are treated as canon. You can also write episodes yourself, and new characters you introduce are added to the cast.
