How to make a cinematic, live-action-style AI series

Lock a photoreal cinematic style, use a brush that paints believable faces, give each character a casting-style reference photo, and render on a video tier that generates dialogue and sound with the picture.

Photoreal is the hardest look to hold

Viewers forgive a cartoon character changing slightly. They notice instantly when a live-action actor’s face changes between shots. Photoreal series need tighter control than drawn ones: a fixed description, a reference image and a style that never slips into illustration.

AISP’s Cinematic style asks for live-action cinematic photography: real-world texture, naturalistic lighting, shallow depth of field, anamorphic lens character and 35mm film grain, with photoreal people and materials. It rules out illustration, drawing, painting, cartoon, anime, cel shading and CGI. Character portraits are painted as photographic casting references.

Pick a brush that can paint people

The Cinematic style uses the Photoreal brush by default (8 credits per image at the time of writing), described as believable light and faces, best for drama and thrillers. AISP pairs the brush with the style because an earlier default produced a drawn cast for a live-action show. You can still override it; the screen tells you if your choice conflicts with the style.

Sound and dialogue

Drama depends on performance. AISP’s video tiers generate their own dialogue and sound with the picture rather than laying a narrator over it. Draft and Cinema render at 720p; Cinema Pro renders full 1080p with sound. At the time of writing they cost 11, 31 and 53 credits per second of finished episode.

For thrillers and dramas with long takes, the Continuous option makes each scene carry on from the previous scene’s footage, so motion and light run through the cut. It costs more per second than scene by scene.
